In a major crackdown against narcotics, the police have arrested three members of a family from Chhanni village, Indora tehsil, Kangra district, after recovering heroin and cash during a raid on their residence.
Ashok Rattan, Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed that 22.27 grams of heroin (chitta) and Rs 90,000 in cash were seized from the house of Bharat, alias Tamma, his mother Bina Devi, and his brother Khanna. “A case has been registered at the Damtal police station under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the three accused,” the SP said.
According to the SP, the three accused were not first-time offenders, but regular smugglers with several criminal cases registered against them.
“Bharat, alias Tamma, has been previously named in three NDPS cases, including one in Pathankot and another in Damtal registered last year in which 91.4 grams of heroin was seized from him.
Khanna also faces multiple cases, including two FIRs at the Indora police station and one at the Damtal police station registered in 2024 linked to heroin recovery. Bina Devi has three past NDPS cases registered against her in 2016, 2017 and 2018,” the SP said.
Rattan said the arrests form part of the ongoing campaign against drug abuse and trafficking in Kangra district. “We are determined to break the supply chain of narcotics and bring repeated offenders to justice. The campaign against drug smugglers will be further intensified,” he said.
