3 specialist doctors appointed at Sarkaghat Civil Hospital
The state government has appointed three specialist doctors at the Civil Hospital, Sarkaghat, in Mandi district fulfilling a long-pending demand of local residents. Out of the three appointed specialists, two have already joined duty. The development follows a representation made by Sarkaghat MLA Dilip Singh during the recent Vidhan Sabha session, where he raised the issue of acute shortage of doctors at the Civil Hospital, which caters to approximately 450 patients in its daily Outpatient Department (OPD). He had explained how the lack of adequate medical staff was affecting healthcare, making essential services inaccessible to the general public.
Responding to the issue, the Chief Minister and the Health Minister had assured that the vacant posts at the hospital would be filled. Acting on the commitment, the state government has now appointed three specialists, including a medicine specialist (MD) and an eye specialist. Both have joined duty.
Dr Des Raj, in-charge of the Civil Hospital, Sarkaghat, said the joining of the two specialists will significantly improve healthcare services. He further added that the posts of an anaesthesia specialist and a psychiatrist are still lying vacant and expressed the hope that these too will be filled in the coming weeks.
Dilip Singh expressed satisfaction over the appointments and said that this step would go a long way in providing quality healthcare to the people. He emphasised that he will continue to pursue the matter until all vacant posts are filled and the hospital is fully equipped with medical staff and facilities.
Meanwhile, the local residents have welcomed the move and expressed gratitude to the state government for addressing their long-standing concern. They have urged the authorities to expedite the appointment process for the remaining vacant posts so that patients in Sarkaghat and adjoining areas do not have to travel long distances for specialist medical care.
