3 teams from Mandi to represent dist in state-level construction event

Three student teams from Mandi district have been selected to represent the district at the state-level safe construction model competition, scheduled to be held in Shimla on October 8. The selected entries include teams from Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), Mandi, Government High School, Burahata and Government College, Basa. The district-level competition was held under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Mandi, Gursimar Singh.

Speaking at the event, the ADC said the primary objective of the competition was to provide school and college students with practical knowledge of disaster management and safe construction techniques. He added that such initiatives were crucial to ensure that training translates into effective ground-level preparedness and resilience. The district-level event featured the best entries selected from block-level competitions.

A total of 16 models were presented across three categories – high school, senior secondary school and college – with around 50 students showcasing their innovative skills and understanding of safe construction practices. The event also saw the presence of several key dignitaries and experts in the field. Dr Rajeev Khanduja, Director-cum-Principal of Jawaharlal Nehru Government Engineering College, Sundernagar, Executive Engineer RK Verma and Narender Kaiath, Training and Capacity Building Coordinator of DDMA Mandi, were present to evaluate and encourage the participants.

Additional District Magistrate Dr Madan Kumar and District Development Officer Gopi Chand Pathak also attended the programme, lauding the efforts of the young participants and encouraging them to continue engaging with disaster preparedness and resilient infrastructure planning.
