In a significant seizure, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Solan police seized with 1.310 kg cannabis from three youth near Gaura school in Kandaghat on April 27 while patrolling the area.

The SIU members, while patrolling the Kandaghat area for crime prevention, received a tip-off that three occupants of a car (HR-21G-0577) parked near Gauda government school were in possession of a huge cache of contraband and that they are involved in its illegal trade. They were on the look out to supply the contraband to some people in the local area.

“Acting immediately, the SIU members arrested the three occupants of the car and seized 1.310 kg cannabis. The trio have been identified as Prakash Thakur (55), a resident of Chaupal, Ravindra Sharma (56), a resident of Rajgarh and Rajesh Pandey (41), a resident of Theog. A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act was registered at Kandaghat police station,” informed SP Solan Gaurav Singh.

They were produced before a court yesterday which remanded them to three days of police custody. Their previous criminal records is being investigated.

The police today raided their houses and 520 grams of cannabis was recovered from the residence of Prakash Thakur in Chaupal. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at Chaupal after this seizure, added the SP.

The SP informed that in a bid to effectively contain the drug menace they were tracing the forward and backward linkages of all drug seizures for the last two years. More than 133 people have been arrested from various states in this campaign. Those in custody included suppliers from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Maharasthra, etc. Those in custody also include nine Africans.
