327 families in Mandi get aid under CM Kanyadan Scheme

In a significant move to support economically weaker families, the Himachal Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, has provided financial assistance totalling Rs 1.66 crore to help solemnise the marriages of 327 daughters in Mandi district under the ‘Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana’.

Between April 2023 and July 2025, each beneficiary received a one-time grant of Rs 51,000, enabling families facing financial hardship to conduct their daughters’ weddings with dignity. The initiative reflects the state government’s ongoing commitment to social welfare and reducing economic inequality.

The ‘Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana’ is aimed at families where the father is either deceased, incapacitated due to illness, or living below the poverty line. To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria: Annual family income below Rs 50,000, Daughter must be 21 years or older and applications are accepted up to six months after the marriage.

Many beneficiaries across Mandi district have expressed deep gratitude for the timely assistance.

Banita from Pandhal village, Gawali, Padhar, shared that the support played a crucial role in organising her daughter Vandana’s wedding. Kiran Kumari of Matlag Phalad in Sarkaghat subdivision said she came to know about the scheme through an Anganwadi worker and appreciated the smooth processing of her daughter Komal Thakur’s application.

Promila Devi from Rakhoh village, mother of Manisha Kumari, also thanked the government for the financial aid. Similar acknowledgements came from Meera Devi (Sims, Ladbharol), Diksha Kumari (Tevan, Karsog), Mathru Devi (Gunas, Thunag) and Rachna Devi (Kandi Tilli, Gohar).

According to officials, eligible families can apply at their nearest Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) office or District Programme Officer by submitting essential documents including Aadhaar card, voter ID, income certificate, domicile certificate and passport-sized photographs.

The District Programme Officer, Ajay Badrel, said 327 daughters in Mandi have benefited from the scheme over the last two years. “This is a highly effective initiative for underprivileged families, helping them conduct weddings without incurring debt,” he said. He urged all eligible families to apply.

Through this initiative, the Sukhu-led government has not only extended meaningful financial support but also reaffirmed its focus on women’s dignity, social equity and inclusive development in the hill state.
