37 IIIT students awarded degrees, medals

As many as 37 graduated B.Tech students were awarded degrees in the third convocation of the Indian Institute of Information technology (IIIT) on its off campus at the National Institute of Technology here today. All students attended the online convocation from their homes.

There were 25 students of Computer Science and Engineering and 12 of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Six students of the institute were awarded the gold, silver and bronze medals in both streams. In Computer Science and Engineering, the awardees were Anubhav Bhalotia (gold), Shivani Joshi (silver) and Kaushal Kishore (bronze) while in Electronic and Communicaion Engineering, Aman Saxena, Shyam Sunder Sharma and Meenal Ranta received the gold, silver and bronze medals.

Prof Anil D. Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), was the chief guest while Dr Srinivasan Sundarrajan, former Director of NIT, Tiruchirappalli, was the guest of honour of the virtual programme.

Sahasrabudhe said that the country was moving towards the industry 4 phase in which digitalisation would be the prime focus. He added that the Central Government was poised to achieve the goal.

He said that technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine and deep learning and data analytics have started penetrating human life. Such disruptive technologies would be the future of the world. Hence, the graduating students would have a lot of challenges to be converted into opportunities, he added.

Sundarrajan said that it was a proud movement for the students to receive their degrees and medals from their parents at their homes — the degrees and the medals were sent to the homes of the students. He added that students should not forget their alma mater and contribute their expertise to the development of the institute.

Prof S. Selvakumar, Director of the IIIT, said that all students had received campus placement and the highest salary package offered to a student was Rs 14 lakh with an average package of Rs 8.66 lakh. The major companies students would join included L&T, Infotech, Infoedge, Payme, Samsung, Jugnoo and Grey B, he added.
