Acting against the mining mafia active in Chakki rivulet in extracting minerals despite blanket ban on mining activities imposed by the state government from July 1 to September 15, the Nurpur district police arrested four persons and seized one JCB machine and three tippers. The machinery was being used for extracting mining material from Chakki khud in Brahmna Naal in Khanni area on Thursday.
The Nurpur police, while acting against the offenders, intercepted the machinery while engaged in illegal mining in the khud and arrested four accused identified as Mann Singh, Tarsem Lal, Onkar Singh and Dheeraj Singh, residents of Pathankot (Punjab). SP Nurpur Ashok Ratan said a case under section 303(2) and 3(5) of the BNS and section 21(1) of the Mines and Mineral Act had been registered against them.
The SP said the district police had registered 14 FIRs related to illegal mining and seized 36 transport vehicles and land excavating machines till August 21 this year. “Apart from this, 474 challans have been issued and a penalty to the tune of Rs 38.92 lakh was recovered from the offenders.
