Una, June 29

Four minor orphaned siblings, living with their maternal uncle in Samoor Kalan village, today got their birth certificates after a prolonged process. Officers of the district administration helped in getting the job done which will help the children, who are still below 10 years of age, in becoming beneficiaries of government schemes intended for them.

District Panchayat Officer Raman Kumar said the father of the siblings, who belonged to the Naina Devi area, had died some time ago. They were later abandoned by their mother, forcing their maternal uncle to bring them to Samoor Kalan. He said none of the children possessed a birth certificate, while the name of their father had been mentioned wrongly in their Aadhaar Cards.

The Panchayat Officer said when the matter came into the notice of Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar, he directed departments concerned to ensure that the children not only got birth certificates, but even the entries on their Aadhaar Cards were rectified.

Since the children now have the required documents, they are now eligible to apply for government schemes like the Foster Care Scheme, said the Panchayat Officer.
