40 Covid-19 cases in Chamba locality, Himachal tally 3,264

The state witnessed a surge of 114 Covid cases today, taking the tally to 3,264. The highest number of 43 cases were reported in Chamba district, followed by 24 in Sirmaur, 17 in Solan, eight each in Mandi, Hamirpur and Kangra, four in Kullu and one each in Shimla and Una districts.

8 cases in Kangra

Eight persons tested positive for Covid-19 in Kangra district today while 43 persons were found infected in Chamba district. A 43-year-old man from Utrala village, near Baijnath, with travel history of Punjab, and two boys and two women, who are primary contacts of a Covid patient, were found infected. As many as 40 persons tested positive in Dharog Mohalla of Chamba town alone.

6 Afcon workers infected

Fourteen Covid cases were reported in Mandi district. According to the district health authorities, six cases were of migrants. The reports of six labourers of Afcon, whose samples were tested in Chandigarh, came out to be positive.

Baldev Tomar, family +ve

Twenty-four persons, including Vice-Chairman of the HP Food Civil Supplies Corporation Baldev Tomar, his wife, son and daughter, tested positive in Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district. A servant and his wife and a nephew of Power Minister Sukh Ram Chaudhary were also found infected. The Puruwala police station was sealed for two days after a head constable tested positive. Meanwhile, the Paonta Sahib DSP and the staff of Puruwala and Paonta Sahib police stations were quarantined.The 24 persons were the primary contacts of the minister.

Twenty-one cases were reported in Solan district — 20 cases from the BBN area and one from the ESI Hospital, Parwanoo.

4 of Una Vigilance positive

Four employees of the Una Vigilance Bureau tested Covid-positive. They were home quarantined after one of their colleagues was found infected. The employees have been shifted to the Covid care centre.
