The Paonta Sahib police recovered 40.944 kg of marijuana, found hidden in a pit, in the forest area of Haripur Tohana village in Sirmaur district today.
Bir Bahadur, DSP, Paonta Sahib, said the contraband was seized at the instance of Sharif Ali, a resident of Haripur Tohana village, aged 54, who was arrested today, in connection with the seizure of 303 kg of marijuana seized by the Puruwala police on May 31. He will be produced before a court tomorrow.
The DSP said they were endeavouring to break the backbone of the drug mafia that had been operating in the area. These large scale seizures would act as a major deterrent for the nefarious elements. The main focus of the police was to arrest the kingpin, so that flow of drugs was curbed in the area.
