5 injured in explosion caused by LPG cylinder leakage in Himachal's Baddi

Five people, including two minor girls, suffered injuries after leakage of gas from an LPG cylinder triggered a blast in a house located in Phase-III of the Housing Board Colony in Baddi on Saturday morning.

The mishap occurred when Dushyant, driver of a utility vehicle, was transferring gas from a commercial cylinder to a smaller cylinder.

The injured have been identified as Rajwati (60), Meena (30), Sakshi (12), Pihu (10) and Dushyant.

As Rajwati used the lighter to ignite LPG stove, the leaked gas triggered explosion, which threw open the door of the room, thus giving an opportunity to the inmates to rush out.

The injured were admitted to the Baddi Civil Hospital for treatment but were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, as their condition was critical.

Raj Kumar, who was entrusted with supplying LPG cylinders, survived as he was not at home when the mishap occurred.

The Fire Department was informed about the mishap, but the fire engine could not reach the spot on time as it got stuck in a drain outside Var Public School in Phase-III.

Police have registered a case against Dushyant, who was illegally transferring gas from one cylinder to another, Additional SP Ashok Verma said.
