In a swift and coordinated operation, the Lahaul-Spiti district police successfully rescued five tourists today who went missing near the Atal Tunnel Rohtang (ATR) on June 8.
According to Lahaul and Spiti SP Ilma Afroz, the incident came to light on June 9 when Ashish Singh informed the police that his friend, Shailender Gupta, along with four companions, had not been in contact since the morning of June 8. The group was last seen near the ATR around 8 am while on their way to Leh, raising concerns among family members after prolonged silence.
"Responding immediately, the Lahaul-Spiti police launched a search operation. Five police teams were formed and despatched across the mountainous terrain, despite difficult geographic conditions," the SP said.
"Thanks to local inputs and advanced technical assistance, the rescue teams were able to locate the missing tourists in the Losar (Kaza) region. Fortunately, all five were found safe and in good health," she stated.
The SP has urged all tourists to follow travel advisories for a safe and pleasant journey in the Himalayas.
