5 unauthorised vendors removed
Shimla Municipal Corporation (MC) officials removed five unauthorised street vendors from various markets in the town today for selling goods without permission. Three vendors were removed from Lower Bazaar, while one was taken from near the State Bank of India (SBI) and another from near Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC). A team of MC officials conducted rounds of the town's markets to identify and remove unauthorised vendors. During the operation, the vendors were asked to present permits and identification; however, as they were unable to do so, their goods were confiscated and they were removed from the premises. According to MC officials, weekly visits are conducted every Sunday to remove unauthorised street vendors. Most of these vendors come from states such as Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab and Chandigarh. The presence of these vendors often leads to market congestion, creating potential hazards in emergency situations, such as fires or medical crises, officials said.
