50 lakh fish seeds to be released into Gobind Sagar Lake in a month
To enhance fish production in Gobind Sagar Lake in Bilaspur district, the Fisheries Department would release over 50 lakh seeds into the lake.
Stating this here on Friday, Vivek Chandel, Director of Fisheries Department, said the process to add the seeds in the lake was started on Friday and about eight lakh seeds were released into the lake near Luhanu ground.
He said the seeds of species that were poured into the lake included Rohu, Katla, Mrigul, Silver Carp and Grass Carp.
Chandel said the fish seeds would be released at different places so that the production equilibrium could be managed in the entire lake area that is spread from Bhakhra to Kandror. He said some seeds would also be poured in the lake near Raipur Maidan and Lathiyani in Una district as the lake was spread in those areas as well. Chandel added that 50 per cent seeds would be of Silver Carp as this variety had got good response.
He said the production of the fish from the lake had increased by 8 metric tonne last year compared to the preceding year. The process of pouring fish seeds would be completed in one month, Chandel added.
