Around 500 students from various government schools and colleges yesterday attended a lecture series organised by Himachal Pradesh Council for Science, Technology, and Environment (HIMCOSTE) at Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV), Shimla.

The theme of the series was “Upcoming missions of ISRO - The impact of space exploration on science and technology”.

Former ISRO scientist Dr Manish Purohit, as the chief speaker at the event, talked about achievements in space science and ISRO’s missions, and provided insights into how Chandrayaan-2 failed to land on the moon, and how Chandrayaan-3 was successful in doing so.

He delved into the process of becoming an ISRO scientist, and the opportunity to apply for internships through the official URSC website.

Prof Raman Sharma spoke about India’s notable contributions to mathematics and physics, talking about the importance of Varah Mihir’s work, ‘Panchasiddhantika’.

Dr Suresh Dali highlighted the significance of such lecture series for interaction, and their role in economic growth and sustainable development through science. — TNS
