Shimla, November 15
As many as 52 teachers have been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in the state over the past decade.
Five such cases were reported in 2019. More incidents had been reported from rural areas compared to urban segments, said an official. All schools have child sex abuse (CSA) committees in place to report such incidents.
“We have zero tolerance to sexual offences against children. Steps like installation of CCTV cameras, creation of a helpline and installation of complaint boxes have helped,” said Higher Education Director Amarjeet Sharma. He said stringent action was being taken against the teachers booked under the POCSO Act. — TNS
