5,557 challans issued in Kinnaur: DC urges public to follow rules

Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Sharma has instructed the Public Works Department and the Police Department to install crash barriers at sensitive locations in the district and ensure smooth traffic flow. He also urged the general public to be aware of traffic rules and adhere to them strictly to eliminate road accidents in the district while chairing a road safety meeting here on Friday.

A total of 5,557 challans had been issued by the police in the district so far, including 202 for drunk driving, 4,977 for over-speeding and 38 for using a mobile phone. During this period, 172 driving licenses have been recommended for suspension to the regional licensing authority.

Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shekhar said the police were running a special campaign to prevent drunk driving. Under this campaign, police checkpoints are being set up near wedding venues in the district and the licence of the drivers caught drunk-driving was being suspended. He appealed to the public to cooperate with the district administration and police in this campaign and to educate people about road safety.
