5,771 saplings planted at Nauni to honour state’s founding father

Rich tributes were paid to the architect of modern Himachal Pradesh and its first Chief Minister, Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar, on his birth anniversary at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni. The university marked the occasion by concluding its month-long Van Mahotsav plantation campaign.

Vice Chancellor Prof Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, along with university officers, faculty, and staff, offered floral tributes to Dr. Parmar, whose leadership was crucial in securing full statehood for Himachal Pradesh.

Director of Research, Dr Sanjeev Chauhan, welcomed participants and highlighted the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability. He shared that 4,880 saplings had already been planted during the month-long departmental plantation drives.

To commemorate Dr Parmar’s birth anniversary, an additional 891 saplings were planted across the university campus and its research stations, taking the total to 5,771.

Prof Chandel praised Dr Parmar’s visionary contributions in shaping the state’s agricultural, horticultural and forestry sectors. He noted that celebrating Van Mahotsav on Dr Parmar’s birth anniversary was a meaningful way to honour his legacy, as the university continues to uphold his vision for a greener and self-reliant Himachal Pradesh.
