Solan, September 10
Commemorating the 24th year of declaration of Solan as the Mushroom City of India, the ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom Research (DMR) here organised a virtual national mushroom fair. Dr AK Singh, Deputy Director General, ICAR, was the chief guest.
Dr VP Sharma, Director, DMR, highlighted the contributions of the directorate in increasing the mushroom production from a mere 40,000 MT in 1994 to 2,10,000 MT by 2019.
Dr Singh stressed the need for quality spawn production and domestication of new edible mushroom to enrich its diversity. He also emphasised the need for export, value-added products, diversification and introduction of new varieties of edible mushroom.
On this occasion, six farmers — A Arunkumar from Tamil Nadu, Saurabh Janghel from Chhattisgarh, Jagdish Chand and Naresh Singh Mankotia from Himachal Pradesh, Dinesh Sahu from Odisha and Brahmacharimayum Khogen Sharma from Manipur — were honoured for adopting innovative technologies and contribution made in the mushroom production.
