6 vehicles laden with illicit timber seized

The Amb Range of the Una Forest Department on Sunday seized six vehicles laden with forest produce at the Gagret barrier. The vehicles were transporting logs of wood to Hoshiarpur district in Punjab, which were illegally cut from different parts of the state.

According to a press release by the Forest Department, they had specific information regarding movement of the forest produce. Consequently, under directions from Una Divisional Forest Officer Sushil Rana, the Amb Forest Range officers quickly constituted three teams.

Departmental officer, along with Van Mitras were sent to different locations at 4 am and the operation continued till 7 am, during which six vehicles, bringing illegal foresee produce from Una, Hamirpur and Kangra districts were seized. As per the press release, the forest produce which has been seized include logs of various broad leaved species, which have been banned from cutting.

The press release stated that the vehicles, along with the forest produce have been taken under the custody of the Forest Department and moved to the premises of the department. Proceedings under the provisions of the Indian Forest Act have been initiated, read the press release.
