606 roads closed; rain to continue till September 24

At least 606 roads, including two National Highways (NHs), are blocked in Himachal Pradesh while as many as 228 transformers remain disrupted due to torrential rain that continues to wreak havoc. As per the Meteorological Department, rainfall is likely to continue across the state till September 24.

As per the State Emergency Operation Centre, of the total 606 blocked roads, Kullu district has the highest of about 203 closed roads, including the National Highway-03, followed by Mandi (198), Shimla (51), Kangra (40), Bilaspur (27), Sirmaur and Chamba (24 each), Solan (18), Una (14, including the National Highway-503A), Hamirpur (5) and Kinnaur (2).

Also, of the total 228 disrupted transformers, Mandi has the highest number of 143 transformers, followed by Hamirpur (31), Shimla and Chamba (18 each), Kullu (17) and Kangra (1), leaving many areas of these districts without electricity. Besides, about 221 water supply schemes are disrupted in the state. Mandi has the highest of 126 disrupted water schemes, followed by Shimla (36), Hamirpur (22), Chamba (19), Solan (8) and Sirmaur (1).

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall continued to lash many parts of Himachal during the past 24 hours. Naina Devi received the highest 140 mm of rain, followed by Bilaspur (122.8 mm), Nahan (80.6 mm), Kasauli (45 mm), Mandi (43.2 mm), Kangra (35.2 mm), Palampur (31 mm), Dharamsala (7.8 mm) and Shimla (6 mm).
