62.66-g ‘chitta’, Rs 50K drug money seized

The Nurpur district police raided a house at Gagwal village under the jurisdiction of the Indora police station late last evening and recovered 62.66 grams of ‘chitta’ (heroin) and Rs 50,000 of drug money from the possession of Rakesh, alias Munna, and arrested him. The police had inputs that Munna was allegely supplying synthetic drugs in the area. He is a native of Gurdaspur district in Punjab and was living with his in-laws at Gagwal village.

Nurpur SP Kulbhushan Verma said that an Indora police team raided the house of the accused and recovered ‘chitta’ and the drug money. He added that the police recovered the synthetic drug in the presence of independent witnesses. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act had been registered against the accused and an investigation was in progress.

The SP said that as per a preliminary investigation, the accused used to procure ‘chitta’ from other state and sell it in Indora by receiving payments online. A financial investigation would be conducted in the case, he added.

Verma said the police were committed to dismantling the interstate and intrastate drug trafficking networks and ensuring a drug-free border district.
