64 inter-state drug trafficking networks unearthed in Solan

Rs 15-cr assets seized from 37 offenders since July 2023

The Solan police have unearthed 64 inter-state drug trafficking networks since July 2023.

During this period, the police seized 18,636 banned drugs and booked 49 persons under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

Solan Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said six habitual offenders had been sentenced for up to six months by invoking Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988.

“These notorious drug traffickers, who are involved in several cases of drug trafficking, were out on bail. In a bid to deter them, they have been kept in the custody in accordance with the provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988,” said Superintendent of Police Gaurav, adding that the Solan police had seized assets worth more than Rs 15 crore from 37 offenders.

The Kunihar police alone confiscated assets worth Rs 6.34 crore in one such case.

The Superintendent of Police informed that notorious drug trafficker Dhani Ram, alias Gulu, who operated in Darlaghat, Bilaspur, Arki, Solan, Kunihar and Shimla region was arrested recently.

A huge cache of drugs comprising 1.62 kg of opium and 1.62 kg of cannabis were seized from his house by a 16-member police team. The contraband was concealed in a specially constructed vault at

his house.

Property worth crores had been bought by him in the name of his family members, including a five-storey house, a restaurant, home stay, earth excavation machine, truck, vehicles, cash and other proceeds of crime valued at Rs 6.34 crore.

The Superintendent of Police said they found suspicious transaction of Rs 3 crore from his bank account in the past few years.

Two other cases of the NDPS Act had been registered against him at Arki and Dharampur.
