Led by Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Kuldeep Singh Rathore, Congress workers held a Jan Chetna Yatra in Manali today.

Rathore alleged that corruption was rampant in the state and the government had failed to control inflation and ensure development.

He alleged that the BJP had claimed that the foundation stone of the Rohtang Tunnel was laid by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, while it was laid by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. He added that 70 per cent of the work on the tunnel was completed during the UPA government at the Centre.

Rathore said that till the plaque of foundation stone laying was not put back at the Atal Tunnel, the Congress would continue to raise the issue at every forum.

Manali Block Congress president Hari Chand Sharma said that state minister Govind Thakur, who represents the Manali Assembly constituency, had also made false promises to people before the elections that the Rohtang ropeway project would not be allowed but he forgot after becoming a minister. He added, “Most of the works under MGNREGA in Kullu and Manali are lying closed and those who have worked under the scheme have not received wages for the past eight months”.

Sharma urged party workers to go door to door to apprise people about the failures and false promises of the government. He said that the Congress would win the Manali seat with a huge margin of votes in the next Assembly elections and form the government in the state.
