76-year-old missing woman’s body found in Shimla

She had accompanied her daughter to IGMC for a routine check-up, during which she went missing

The body of a 76-year-old woman, who went missing from Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, on June 19, has been found from Kanlog locality, police said here today.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjogta Nag, a resident of Sankat Mochan in Shimla. According to reports, she had accompanied her daughter to IGMC for a routine check-up, during which she went missing.

A search operation was launched by the police as soon as a missing complaint was registered. During this period, her family members had also met Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, following which the CM directed the police to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to intensify the search operation.

According to the CCTV footage, she was last seen on June 19 around 7pm near a building in Kanlog area. Since then, the investigation team has been actively conducting a search operation.

Today, when a police team was searching for her, they spotted a dead body of a woman in a nallah; upon identification, the body was taken to the IGMC for post-mortem.

Shimla Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rattan Negi confirmed the report and said police is conducting an investigation. He stated that as per the family members, the deceased was suffering from dementia, which is believed to be the reason for her wandering off from the hospital.
