8 arrested for drug trade in Palampur
The Palampur police have arrested eight individuals, including two women, from Khalet village, 5 km from town, for allegedly operating a heroin (chitta) distribution network in Palampur and nearby areas. The police seized 11.64 gram of heroin and seized a car used in drug distribution.
Earlier, the police arrested a couple from Punjab, Pushpinder (28) and his wife Amandeep Kaur, residents of Makassar, for drug peddling in Kangra district. Three more individuals—Anmol, Bineet, and Aaryan—linked to the couple were also apprehended. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered.
Probe revealed that local drug peddlers in the region were sourcing heroin from Punjab. “The arrest of local peddlers has uncovered an interstate drug trade network led by Punjab-based traffickers. More arrests cannot be ruled out,” said a police officer.
The arrested individuals had been involved in trafficking for a long time, procuring drugs from Punjab and distributing them in Kangra district.
