8 cattle electrocuted in Nahan village as high-tension power line snaps
In a heart-wrenching incident, eight cattle lost their lives due to electrocution in the Haripurkhol panchayat of the Nahan Assembly constituency late last evening.
The tragedy occurred when a high-tension (H-T) power line snapped and fell onto the livestock near the residence of a woman livestock owner in Jamnighat village.
According to reports, the fallen power line instantly killed eight cattle, while two sustained injuries. The police and Revenue Department teams promptly arrived at the scene on getting information about the tragedy.
The incident sparked outrage among residents, who have accused the electricity board of gross negligence. They claimed that a similar incident occurred last year when two cattle were electrocuted due to a broken H-T line in the same area. Despite repeated appeals from villagers to replace or relocate the H-T lines, no action was taken by the electricity board.
“The board’s negligence has now cost the life of eight cattle, leaving a widowed woman livestock owner with losses amounting to lakhs of rupees,” said one of the residents.
Residents have demanded immediate relocation of the H-T lines to prevent such incidents. They pointed out that four high-voltage H-T lines passed dangerously over their homes and cattle sheds in the area, posing a constant threat to life and property.
“This is not just an accident, it is the result of continuous negligence by the electricity board. The affected woman must be compensated adequately and the lines must be shifted without delay,” stated another villager.
The local administration has assured that an inquiry will be conducted into the incident. Meanwhile, villagers have urged the authorities to expedite the process and address the issue to avoid further loss of life and property.
