80% patients in Kangra, Chamba cured without hospitalisation

More than 80 per cent Covid patients in Kangra and Chamba districts have been cured without hospitalisation.

In three months, 303 persons have tested positive for the infection in Kangra district and 59 in Chamba district. About 70 per cent of the people had returned from hotspots such as Delhi and Mumbai and about 10 per cent were their primary contacts.

Kangra DC Rakesh Prajapati said of the 303 patients, 249 had tested negative and been discharged. The DC said none of the asymptomatic Covid patients required any kind of hospitalisation or medication. They were cured on their own. He said in some cases, the patients were given Vitamin C and multi-vitamins as per the advice of doctors.

Two person who later died were a Tibetan, who had returned from the USA, and a Kangra resident, who had renal problems and required dialysis.

Sources here said the Tibetan who died had cardiac problems. The doctors are of the view that the cause of the death in both cases was more likely other health reasons.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Chamba, Dr Rajesh Guleri said of the 59 patients, 50 had been cured and now there were just nine active cases.

He also said all patients, who were cured in Chamba, did not require hospitalisation or medication. They were just kept in an isolation ward in the Covid containment zones and given multi-vitamins to boost their immunity. Among those who were cured in Chamba was a two-year-old girl.

The sources said many doctors felt that serious ailments such as cardiac problems, cancer and kidney problems were more lethal than coronavirus.
