As many as 86 roads were blocked for traffic across Chamba district as relentless rains battered the district on Friday. Among the major roads, the Chowari-Lahru road was blocked at Kalighar due to a massive landslide while the Chamba-Chowari road was also in disuse due to swollen Dughali Nullah. Other crucial links including Tuunuhatti-Lahru and Shahpur-Sinhunta-Lahru road have also been blocked due to multiple landslides.
As per the district emergency operation centre, several remote villages are facing power outages due to malfunctioned transformers adding to the difficulty residents are facing due to heavy rains. Several areas also face drinking water as more than 90 water supply schemes have been affected.
In the wake of incessant downpour, the district administration has advised people not to undertake unnecessary travel and avoid venturing in landslide prone areas.
This monsoon season Chamba district has suffered cumulative losses amounting to Rs. 66.99 Crore as to the date. As many as 17 people have died in rain related incidents while 21 people have suffered injuries. A total of 28 houses have been damaged.
