95 per cent water supply schemes restored: Deputy CM

sThe Jal Shakti Department, which has suffered a loss of Rs 580.30 crore, has temporarily restored 95 per cent water supply schemes that were damaged due to recent torrential rain and flashfloods in the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri today said that 5,805 water supply schemes were damaged due to cloudbursts and flashfloods and 5,440 of these had been restored temporarily. He added that the state had 10,067 water supply schemes (3,210 lift schemes, 335 tube wells and 6,522 gravity-based schemes).

He said, “Heavy rainfall has impacted 5,805 water supply schemes but swift action by the Jal Shakti Department has ensured that a majority of these schemes start operations soon. The estimated loss to these water supply schemes stands at around Rs 434.47 crore.”

Agnihotri said that 1,293 irrigation schemes had also been affected, causing an estimated loss of Rs 101.67 crore. Additionally, 43 flood protection works were damaged, causing a loss of Rs 19.77 crore, while 83 damaged sewerage schemes suffered a loss of Rs 23.55 crore, and 319 damaged hand pumps suffered an estimated loss of Rs 81.52 lakh. In total, 7,543 schemes were affected in the state with a cumulative loss of Rs 580.30 crore.
