98-kg poppy straw seized

The Paonta Sahib Police seized 98-kg poppy straw during a search operation yesterday. A special team under the leadership of the Station House Officer (SHO) of Paonta Sahib was formed following a tip-off regarding the movement of the contraband.
The team intercepted a vehicle (HP85 5786) at Bhuppur. The driver identified himself as Zakir Hussain (56), a resident of Paonta Sahib. the police discovered five sacks of poppy straw or ‘bhukki’ from the car. A case has been registered. Paonta Sahib Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Aditi Singh emphasised the police commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. — OC
