The Conference Hall at Gaiety Theatre came alive as ‘Kuhu Learns to Deal With Life’, a middle-grade fiction book by Sonia Dogra, was launched under the aegis of the Keekli Charitable Trust, with the support of the Language and Culture Department.
The event drew a diverse audience of young readers, literary enthusiasts and prominent members of Shimla’s literary community. Sonia Dogra, an ex-educator, editor and widely published poet and writer, makes her debut in middle-grade fiction with this work.
Drawing upon her deep understanding of young minds, she offers readers a narrative that blends empathy, reflection and hope — making ‘Kuhu Learns to Deal With Life’ a meaningful addition to contemporary children’s literature.
Shriniwas Joshi, an ex-civil servant and columnist, presided over the launch programme. A thought-provoking panel discussion, led by Prof Meenakshi Faith Paul, delved into the book’s themes, emotional depth and the importance of acknowledging childhood experiences in literature.
