A grand cluster-level event was organised at the Rajpura Panchayat Hall by HDFC Bank Parivartan and Aashray Foundation to mark National Women's Day. Women trainees who underwent a 90-day handicraft training from villages, including Kiyani, Rajpura, Rajnagar, Roopani, Rinda, Udaipur, and Haripur participated in the event, sharing their experiences and success stories. National Women's Day is celebrated on February 13 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu - a freedom fighter, poet and the first Governor of the United Provinces.
The event was attended by Panchayat representatives, including pradhan Urmila Devi, deputy pradhan Rachna Devi, and secretary Prabhinder Thakur. Chief guest Santoshi Kumari educated the women about their legal rights and encouraged them to become self-reliant. She emphasised the importance of legal awareness in ensuring women's empowerment and financial independence.
During the event, Dr Naveen Sharma, programme manager of Aashray Foundation and HDFC Bank Parivartan, announced that handicraft units would be set up in five villages in the next financial year. He also shared plans for financial literacy training sessions aimed at helping women gain financial knowledge and independence.
Sharma also provided insights into various initiatives being implemented in different villages. Santoshi Kumari also spoke about legal rights and motivated women to take charge of their future.
The panchayat pradhan and deputy pradhan expressed gratitude to Aashray Foundation and HDFC Bank Parivartan for organising the event.
