ABVP demands arrest of SFI activists
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office at Himachal Pradesh University today, demanding the immediate arrest of Students’ Federation of India (SFI) activists allegedly involved in a recent violent clash between the two student groups on campus.
During the protest, ABVP state secretary Nancy Atal accused the police of taking biased action by targeting ABVP members while allowing SFI activists to roam freely. She claimed that for the past month, SFI members had been making inappropriate remarks toward women ABVP workers, escalating tensions between the organisations.
“SFI is an anti-national student organisation whose activists have no other work than to harass women members of other student groups,” Atal alleged. She further claimed that SFI members were now openly threatening ABVP leaders, including the state president and state secretary, warning that they would “break their legs.” Additionally, she alleged that female ABVP members were receiving threat calls and messages, warning them of dire consequences if they stepped out of their residences.
ABVP has warned that if the police continue to take one-sided action, they will launch a state-wide agitation and intensify protests across Himachal Pradesh.
