ABVP seeks appointment of HPU VC

The Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) today staged a protest in the campus against the state government and the university authorities. During the protets, they demanded immediate appointment of a Vice-Chancellor for the university.

The authoritarian attitude of the state government has left the youth of the state disappointed. For a long time, the Vidyarthi Parishad has been protesting against the declining quality of education and the lack of permanent employment opportunities for the youth by the state government. Whether it’s the guest teacher policy or the termination of 20,000 jobs in the state, the government continues to disappoint the youth.

During the protest, ABVP’s campus vice-president Insh Datwalia said the university was facing numerous issues due to the absence of a permanent VC at the university for a long time. However, the government has failed to appoint a VC.

“Due to the absence of a permanent VC, the university’s financial management has collapsed. As a result, HPU has reduced the number of buses it operates from six to just three. The university administration is unable to provide new buses, causing a major inconvenience for students as they struggle to travel in the crowded buses. We demand that bus facilities be restored for the students,” said Datwalia.

He added that the state government had already eliminated numerous job opportunities. Moreover, the ongoing allegations regarding the recent recruitment in the Assembly are a matter of concern. “The Assembly is a constitutional institution, and the youth of the state have always looked up to it, hoping the government would introduce policies and create job opportunities for the welfare of the public. However, such allegations against a constitutional institution have left the youth disheartened. ABVP demands a judicial inquiry into these allegations to strengthen the weakening system in the state,” he said.

He also hit out at the state government over its guest teacher policy that was announced recently by the state government. He said the policy was adversely affecting every student studying at the university. “Students work day and night, preparing for exams, but the government — through the guest teacher policy — is depriving them of permanent employment. The youth is highly agitated by this policy, therefore the state government should immediately withdraw it,” he said.

ABVP has warned of launching a mass movement within the university as well as across the state if the state government fails to meet their demands.
