ABVP stages protest, seeks action against drug abuse

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest on campus of Government Post Graduate College, Chamba, accusing the Congress-led state government of acting against students instead of addressing the growing issue of drug abuse. The protesters demanded that the government focus on eradicating drugs to safeguard the youth from addiction.

During the demonstration, the ABVP submitted a memorandum urging the government to ensure basic facilities in all colleges. Chamba unit president Lalit Verma emphasised that the ABVP has been continuously demanding the restoration of student union elections, but the government has been neglecting students’ interests.

He pointed out that several teaching positions remain vacant across various colleges, hampering students’ education. The ABVP urged the state government to promptly fill these vacancies and appoint a vice-chancellor for the university.

Verma reaffirmed ABVP’s commitment to student welfare and warned that protests will continue until their demands are met.
