Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), on Tuesday announced that it will launch ‘Abhinivritti’ campaign to combat the growing menace of drug abuse across the state.
Considering the severity of the issue, the ABVP has formed a state-level committee to lead the initiative.
Addressing a press conference here, Arpit Jaryal, the state executive members of ABVP, said the campaign will begin on February 28 and continue till March 10, with various activities planned at different levels.
From February 28 to March 5, the ABVP units will submit memorandums to SDMs, DCs, SPs, public representatives, the Chief Minister and the Governor, highlighting the urgency of addressing the issue.
Following this, from March 5 to 10, awareness efforts will include the distribution of pamphlets, posters and setting up of awareness camps at multiple locations to educate the youth.
From March 3 to 6, the RSS student wing will conduct symposiums and research-based discussions to deepen understanding of the drug menace while awareness rallies will be held at unit and university levels on March 7.
Through its National Art Forum, the organisation will also stage street plays and large-scale public events in district centres to further engage and educate the society.
Jaryal emphasized that while law enforcement agencies are cracking down on drug traffickers, many cases go unreported due to the deep-rooted nature of the problem. He pointed out that loneliness, lack of parental supervision and weak emotional connections often push children towards bad influences.
He also highlighted the negative impact of lack of interest in sports and excessive mobile phone addiction, which contribute to stress, depression and eventually drug dependency. He further expressed concern over the increasing drug trafficking and substance abuse cases in the state in the past 5 to 10 years and reaffirmed ABVP’s commitment to playing an active role in curbing drug abuse through its campaign.
