Rohit Thakur was addressing the students after inaugurating a district level three-day sports competition for girls, below 19 years, at the Government Excellent Senior Secondary School, Kandaghat.
In this three-day sports competition, 543 girl students from 46 schools of Solan district will showcase their talent in volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, badminton, yoga and chess.
Thakur said mental concentration, regular exercise and hardwork were necessary for a healthy body. Sports teach us to live life in a systematic manner, he stressed.
“Talent is present in all students and by identifying their skills, students can not only achieve the highest pinnacle of success, but can also lend a hand in the development of the country,” he said.
He asked the girl students to realise the vision of drug-free Himachal Pradesh and urged them to neither consume drugs nor allow any of their friends to consume these. “Building a drug-free state is possible only with the cooperation of the youth and students. They should pledge to say no to drugs throughout their life, only then we can envision a drug-free society,” the Education Minister added.
Thakur said the main objective of the state government was to enhance the quality of education. “In this direction, about 18 per cent of the budget is being spent on education by the government.
The government has decided to open Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools in every assembly constituency . The state government will create 700 posts of lecturers and TGT and about 6,200 posts of NTT in the future,” he said.
Thakur added that the state government was currently focusing on rationalisation of schools to improve the number of students and student-teacher ratio.
