A district-level function was organised to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities at the NGO Bhawan here on Wednesday. Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Garg, while extending greetings to all persons with disabilities on this occasion, said the day served as a reminder of the values of equality, respect and sensitivity toward persons with disabilities. He said the occasion encouraged society to recognise their abilities, rights and potential while also offering an opportunity to take meaningful steps toward their empowerment.

Garg said that persons with disabilities continued to move forward with courage, confidence and hard work, despite facing numerous challenges every day. “Their spirit is commendable, and they are a source of inspiration for society,” he said. Stressing the importance of an inclusive society, he added that every individual could progress according to their abilities only when the environment was accessible and supportive. He urged that persons with disabilities be given ample opportunities to showcase their abilities.
