Additional trains between Nurpur-Baijnath Paprola narrow gauge from tomorrow
In a move to provide relief to commuters using economical train services in Kangra district, the Northern Railway Division, Jammu, will introduce an additional pair of trains between the Nurpur Road and Baijnath (Paprola) railway stations from April 1. The decision comes in light of the Navratras beginning on Sunday. Previously, only two pairs of trains were operational on this narrow-gauge track.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Northern Railway, Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal, announced in a press release that train number 52475 will depart from Nurpur Road at 8 am, reaching Paprola at 2.55 pm. Train number 52476 will leave Paprola at 10 am and arrive at Nurpur Road at 4.45 pm. These trains will halt at multiple stations, including Panchrukhi, Palampur Himachal, Kangra Temple, Jawalamukhi Road and Bharmar, among others.
This railway route is considered a lifeline for rural residents in Kangra district. Before July 2022, seven pairs of trains operated between Pathankot and Jogindernagar, benefiting people in Kangra and Mandi districts. However, train services were suspended after the Chakki railway bridge in Nurpur was destroyed by flash floods.
The reconstruction of the bridge is in its final phase and is expected to be completed within a month. Once completed, the Northern Railway plans to restore the suspended train services, providing significant relief to daily commuters and travelers in the region.
