Mandi, June 15

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur has hailed the decision of the Central Government to launch the Agnipath scheme for the recruitment of youth in armed forces.

Thakur, while talking to mediapersons here today, said that Agnipath was a visionary scheme, which would provide a unique opportunity to the youth to serve the country and contribute towards nation building.

“Himachal is known as Veer Bhoomi and many sons of the soil are giving their services in the armed forces. This scheme will further encourage youth of the state and the country to serve in the armed forces. About 46,000 Agniveers will be recruited this year under the scheme, giving a boost to employment opportunities,” he said.

“It will enhance availability of trained personnel to boost national security in the times of external and internal threats and natural disasters and make the profile of the armed forces more youthful and dynamic,” said the Chief Minister.

He addressed the closing ceremony of the IRIS 2022 of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College at Ner Chowk in Mandi district yesterday. He said that the makeshift hospital in the medical college would be used for super specialty services once the pandemic was over. Also, steps would be taken to fill vacant posts of doctor in the medical college.

The medical college aims at providing high quality education and healthcare through highly skilled, dedicated and compassionate doctors and staff. This medical College was providing medical facility to people of four districts Mandi, Kullu, Lahaul Spiti and Bilaspur districts, the Chief Minister said.

He said that at present 23 departments were functioning and process for setting up of other departments was under process. The college has an in-take capacity of 120 seats annually.

“Despite being a small state, Himachal Pradesh has six medical colleges in the government sector alone. The state government has decided to fill 500 posts of doctor to strengthen health infrastructure in the state,” he said.

He said the medical college played a crucial role in treatment of Covid-19 patients. He added the state government would consider increasing the stipend of trainee doctors.
