Himachal: Agriculture Minister lays stone of nagar panchayat building

NURPUR, JANUARY 25

Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar today laid the foundation stone of nagar panchayat building complex at Jawali town in his native Assembly constituency in Kangra district. The building will be built at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore. The building complex will have a nagar panchayat office, seven shops, a rest house having five rooms and three employees’ quarters.

Presiding over the foundation laying ceremony, the minister said the Congress government in the state had given status of a subdivision and upgraded Jawali gram panchayat to a nagar panchayat. He said on the basis of development, Jawali had emerged as one of the biggest towns in the state. An amount of Rs 4.45 crore was being spent on various development works in Jawali nagar panchayat.

The minister said that efforts would be made to organise Sunday market on every week at Jawali town in which self-help groups and traders could sell their products to improve their income. He also informed that the state government had prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Rs 19 crore for sewerage system at Jawali town.

To strengthen the irrigation system in the Assembly constituency, work was in progress in the irrigation sector under “JICA Project”. “In the second phase of this project, 19 irrigation sub-projects worth about Rs 17 crore have been included in the Jawali Assembly constituency which will provide irrigation facility to 750 hectares of land of 1650 farmers in the area,” he said.
