Agriculture Minister stresses use of modern technology to boost farming
Agriculture minister Chander Kumar on Friday emphasised the vital role of modern technology in advancing the agriculture sector.
Addressing a training programme for agricultural officers at the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun, he highlighted the significance of remote sensing technology, noting that it not only provides weather updates but also offers critical data to address various agricultural challenges efficiently.
The minister said the state government has launched several innovative initiatives to strengthen the rural economy. “Under the Him Krishi Yojana, activities have commenced in various clusters. Additionally, a provision of Rs 154 crore has been made under the Himachal Pradesh Crop Diversification Promotion Project to promote agricultural mechanisation and the adoption of modern technologies,” he said.
He further said the state government is actively encouraging natural farming and has declared a support price of Rs 90 per kg for turmeric cultivated through natural farming methods.
Chander Kumar appreciated the efforts of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun, and noted that training programmes organised by the institute would prove highly beneficial for farmers and horticulturists. He added that agricultural officers from the state would be sent to IIRS for training as master trainers.
A six-day remote sensing training programme was held at the institute for 25 agricultural officers from Himachal Pradesh, from April 21 to April 26.Director IIRS RP Singh and Director Agriculture Kumud Singh were also present on the occasion.
