Former Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the opposition during his visit to the district today. Thakur said Rahul Gandhi is on course to “break his own record of losing over 90 elections”, accusing opposition parties of repeatedly blaming constitutional institutions instead of accepting their defeats.
Speaking to the media, Anurag alleged that the opposition had reduced Parliament to a political battlefield while ignoring key public issues. He criticised their “baseless allegations” against the Election Commission and EVMs ahead of the Bihar elections. “Even the Supreme Court has dismissed such claims multiple times. These are just excuses to hide failures,” he remarked.
Thakur further charged the Congress with misusing institutions, recalling that after Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, general elections were postponed nationwide though only one constituency was directly affected. He also alleged that Congress rewarded former Chief Election Commissioners with governorships and cabinet berths, undermining institutional credibility.
Earlier in the day, Thakur attended multiple social functions, including a blood donation camp in Ukhli held in memory of the late Basanti Devi. Praising the turnout, he called blood donation “a noble act of humanity.” He also planted a sapling under the “Ek ped maa ke naam” campaign and urged citizens to contribute to environmental conservation. Addressing public grievances, he assured people of prompt redressal and reiterated BJP’s commitment to development in Hamirpur.
