Ahead of Diwali, Shimla bans sale of crackers without licence
The Shimla district administration has announced a complete ban on the sale of firecrackers without a valid licence, warning of strict legal action against violators in the run-up to Diwali.
Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) Pankaj Sharma said unauthorised sale, storage or distribution of firecrackers will not be tolerated. “Strict penal action, including seizure of stock and registration of cases, will be taken against those found violating the rules,” he stated.
The ADM noted that reports had surfaced of individuals and shopkeepers planning to sell firecrackers illegally during the festive season. Under the Explosives Act, 1884, and Explosives Rules, 2008, only licensed sellers are permitted to engage in the trade. “All licensed vendors are directed to comply with the conditions of their licences, while citizens are urged to buy firecrackers only from authorided sellers and designated markets,” Sharma emphasised.
He further appealed to the public to cooperate with the administration in ensuring a safe, peaceful and environmentally responsible Diwali 2025. The move, he said, is aimed at preventing accidents, maintaining order and safeguarding both people and property during the celebrations.
