Dr Bijay Kumar Sethi, associate professor of paediatric surgery at AIIMS-Bilaspur, made it to the final of the low-cost surgical simulation competition at a Global Surgical Innovation Summit held in Manila, Philippines. The event is part of the fifth biennial meeting of the Global Initiative for Children’s Surgery (GICS) there.

As per AIIMS spokesperson, Dr Sethi was selected from among 151 participants from all over the world for his groundbreaking work in paediatric surgery simulation, focusing on affordability and accessibility. Dr Sethi was also the guest speaker at a special session sponsored by the World Health Organization learning academy. “His presentation ‘Innovation in Simulation’ shed light on novel approaches to surgical training, emphasising cost-effectiveness and wide applicability,” said the spokesperson.
