The authorities have issued a safety advisory for residents and visitors near the Beas River as water levels may rise unexpectedly due to a possible release from the Pandoh Dam in Mandi district today. The Additional Superintending Engineer of BBMB, Pandoh, stated that due to continuous snowmelt in the dam’s catchment area, the water inflow into the reservoir has increased significantly.

To manage the rising water level, the dam’s spillway gates may be opened at any time to release excess water downstream. This precautionary step is necessary to maintain the structural safety of the dam and ensure smooth water regulation. However, it may result in a sudden surge in the flow of the Beas.

In light of this, the public has been strongly advised not to venture near the riverbanks in the next 24 hours. People residing or working in low-lying areas along the river are urged to stay alert and follow safety guidelines. Authorities have also appealed for cooperation to prevent any untoward incidents.

The district administration is closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates if required. The public is requested to remain vigilant and prioritise safety over curiosity during this period.
