Alisha Katoch of Kangra district has become the first Indian Accuracy Paragliding Pilot to represent the country at the 13th FAI World Accuracy Paragliding Championship, a prestigious Category-I event, held at Turkey from October 9 to 19.

Alisha’s presence among 140 elite pilots from 38 countries is a landmark moment for Indian paragliding. Never before has an Indian paraglider reached this level in the FAI’s premier world championship for accuracy flying.

“This was my instructor Vijay Soni’s dream to see me compete at the highest level of paragliding,” said an emotional Alisha. “Though he’s no longer with us, every flight I take is for him. His dream lives on through my wings,” she added.

Alisha’s ascent to the world stage is backed by an impressive track record — 23 medals and eight trophies in various national and international competitions. Her selection marks not only a personal achievement but also a breakthrough for India in a sport still gaining visibility.

The 13th FAI Championship is renowned for its competitive field and Alisha’s participation signals India’s growing presence in global air sports.
