All blocks to get plastic waste management units, says Kangra DC
Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa on Tuesday inaugurated a plastic waste management unit established in Agojar gram panchayat of the Panchrukhi development block.
The DC appreciated the cooperation of all ward members, including the pradhan and panchayat representatives and Panchayat Samiti members, for setting up the plastic waste management unit in a record time. He said the building and machinery for the unit had been installed in a month’s time.
The unit, built at a cost of Rs 16 lakh, will compress plastic waste collected from 28 panchayats of the Panchrukhi development block.
The DC said Assistant Commissioner Development and Panchrukhi BDO Anjali Garg had taken a commendable initiative in the development block by deploying sanitation workers in community sanitation complexes. A schedule for collecting plastic waste from the panchayat has also been fixed for them.
He said the collected plastic will be compressed scientifically as per the prescribed standards and guidelines. This will also eliminate garbage hotspots in the block and people will get a better way to dispose of plastic waste. Panchayats have been asked to comply with the prescribed guidelines for plastic waste management, he said.
The Deputy Commissioner said seven such units have been established in the district. A proposal has been mooted to establish a plastic waste management unit in every development block and the process of establishing units in the remaining development blocks has also been started. The District Rural Development Agency officials and Swachh Bharat Mission coordinators are continuously working in this direction. Block Development Officers are bringing the programme to the ground in coordination with panchayats.
Through the plastic based management unit, waste is being collected from the rural area and its proper disposal is being done as per the laid down standards.
On the occasion, Assistant Commissioner Development and Panchrukhi BDO Anjali Garg, District Rural Development Agency Project Officer Chandraveer Singh and Palampur BDO Bhanu Pratap Singh were also present.
