Taking precautionary measures in view of persistent rainfall and worsening weather conditions, the Himachal Pradesh government has ordered the closure of all government and private educational institutions in the state until September 7.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of both students and staff as the state continues to face landslides, falling trees, road blockages, power outages and damage to public infrastructure. The order applies to schools, colleges and District Institutes of Education and Training.

Teachers and administrative staff have also been exempted from attending institutions during this period. However, heads of institutions have been directed to ensure online classes are conducted wherever possible and to remain alert in safeguarding school property, records and equipment. The Himachal Pradesh University and its centres will also remain closed till September 7, with faculty members directed to conduct online classes during this period.

An official notification issued by the state government emphasised that the step was necessary given the likelihood of further weather-related disruptions. The minister stressed that the safety of students and teachers remains the government’s priority and urged institutions to take appropriate precautions against potential damage to infrastructure or assets.
